LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Bryant police officer wounded in a shootout with man wanted for murder has been named Arkansas Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced Wednesday the selection of Officer Scott Johnson.

Johnson was responding to an alarm at a Bryant store on April 2 when he encountered a man wanted in Illinois on first-degree murder and robbery charges. McDaniel says the suspect shot Johnson twice in the hand and once in the shoulder and Johnson returned fire and killed the man.

Other officers recognized are Wildlife Office Block Meyer of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission; Jacksonville Police Officer Daniel DiMatteo; Hope Police Officer Scott Hurd; Sebastian County Sheriff's Cpl. Richard Rivera and officers who were killed in the line of duty.
