Posted: Updated:

CAVE CITY, Ark. (AP) - Voters in Cave City have approved the first city sales tax in the town's history.

The Sharp County clerk's office says the 1 percent sales and use tax was approved in a special election Tuesday on a 94-83 vote.

Jonesboro television station KAIT reports (http://bit.ly/1bZMwtm ) that the tax is expected to generate about $130,000 each year. The proceeds will pay for the salary of an additional police officer and other improvements throughout the town.
