Conway PD arrest caregiver after child received severe burns

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY (KATV) – Conway Police arrested 29-year-old Ashley Burch Tuesday after a six-year-old girl in her care was taken to the hospital Monday with 2nd degree burns on her stomach and legs.

Officials said the girl told hospital personnel that she got the burns after falling in a ditch on the way home from school. But the child later told them Burch, the woman she called mom, poured boiling hot water on her as punishment. Burch denies these allegations.

Burch is not the child's mother but lived with the six year old and her biological mother.

She faces two felony counts including first degree domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor. She is being held in the Faulkner County Detention Center without bond.

The child is recovering in the hospital.
