SAN DIEGO, Oct. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bluetooth software leader Wicentric Inc. today announced that Misfit Wearables has selected Wicentric's exactLE™ Stack for Bluetooth low energy connectivity in its Shine, an elegant physical activity monitor that you can wear anywhere. The award-winning Misfit Shine began shipping in August and is available at Apple Stores around the world.
Wicentric's exactLE Stack is a powerful, efficient, and easy-to-use protocol stack solution designed specifically to meet the needs of Bluetooth Smart (Bluetooth low energy) products like sports & fitness sensors and mobile phone "appcessories." As Bluetooth Smart becomes a standard feature in major mobile phone operating systems, like iOS 7 and Android 4.3, Wicentric's exactLE Stack provides accessory makers with a solution that enables innovative product features while reducing their interoperability risk and time to market.
Wicentric worked closely with Misfit to develop Shine's Bluetooth low energy application firmware, which includes advanced features like data sync and over-the-air firmware upgrade. Wicentric also worked closely with its industry partner Texas Instruments (TI), supplier of the CC2541 Bluetooth radio system-on-chip in Shine. The result of this close collaboration was a successful project spanning less than five months from design start to mass production.
"We had a very aggressive schedule for Shine and we had to get up to speed quickly on Bluetooth low energy technology," said Sonny Vu, CEO of Misfit Wearables. "Wicentric's software enabled us to rapidly create a seamless connectivity experience that just works and meets the high standards of our product."
"Wicentric is an excellent Bluetooth low energy partner because of its technology expertise and the level of support they provide manufacturers," said Sid Shaw, worldwide business and marketing manager, Wireless Connectivity Solutions, TI. "We were excited to collaborate with Wicentric on this project and are very impressed by the sophisticated and elegant product Misfit has produced."
