Arrest made in capital murder case

Posted: Updated:

PINE BLUFF (KATV) - Police surrounded a house Thursday morning where they believed 22-year-old Marcus Halton was inside hiding.

Halton is the only suspect in the murder of 47-year-old George Haney. Tuesday, police found Haney inside his white pickup truck with a bullet wound in his chest.

Police believe Halton is the shooter and had questions for him, but first they had to get him out of the house.

"It was a short standoff. He didn't want to come out of the house," said Sgt. David De Foor.

Detectives tried reasoning with Halton, reassuring him that he would be safe and not injured if he came out of the house.

"After detectives got on the PA and talked to him, he came out of the house on his own free will," said De Foor.

Once he was cuffed cops who had the house surrounded came from the woodwork to walk Halton to the car.

"He was brought down to the detective office. After a short interview, he was taken to the jail. He's booked in for capital murder," said De Foor.
