UPDATE: BAPD Arrest Man for Break-In at Older Couple's Home

Posted: Updated:

Broken Arrow police report there are charges against a man for allegedly robbing and threatening an elderly couple in their home.

Police believe Michael Tanner Lank, 30, threatened and robbed the Broken Arrow couple.

A statement from the Broken Arrow Police Department said the incident took place Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of Lynwood Lane. It was there that police were called to a reported robbery.

According to the release, an 84-year-old homeowner told officers that a masked suspect entered his home without permission and threatened him with a large knife.

Officers stated that the suspect took items of value, but no description was given. When the homeowners wife arrived back home, the suspect knocked her to the ground and he fled.

The couple's granddaughter said the suspect allegedly stole cash, credit cards, checks, her grandfather's gun, and her grandmother's wedding ring.

The suspect reportedly left the area in a red Nissan pickup truck.

The couple's granddaughter took to Facebook, asking for the community's help identifying the suspect's vehicle. She said the posts generated many 'shares' and 'likes'. She attributes the case's progress to the "power of social media."

Broken Arrow Police Crime Prevention Specialist, Lisa Ford, said sometimes sharing information can hinder an investigation. She said it is always good to communicate with the detectives handling the case.

Ford said most thieves break into homes they think are empty. She said it is important to keep doors locked and garage doors down. She said if you hear anyone outside, making noise so they know someone is home.

"If you see something, say something," Ford said. She said in an emergency, dial 911. In a non-emergency situation, you may dial 918-259-8400 to report something suspicious.
