Federal officials say they’re working to report some of the glitches that have been reported this morning with the new online health insurance exchanges.

Tuesday was the first day people could enroll in the new plans as part of the Affordable Care Act.

U.S. Health and Human Services spokeswoman Joanne Peters says officials "have built a dynamic system and are prepared to make adjustments as needed and improve the consumer experience."

ABC News reported earlier in the day that consumers were getting error messages during the sign up process and it appeared the website was having difficulty handling the volume of people logging on.

At noon on Monday, users trying to sign up for an Oklahoma plan saw this message for about two minutes before being redirected to the start page “We have a lot of visitors on our site right now and we're working to make your experience here better. Please wait here until we send you to the login page. Thanks for your patience!”

Callers to the federal call center where consumers can get help by telephone also have reported long wait times.
