Arrest made in shooting death of man near Magazine

Posted:

MAGAZINE (AP) - Logan County authorities say a suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a man near Magazine in western Arkansas.

Sheriff Steve Smith told the Times Record that the suspect is in custody - but charges have not been filed.

Smith says deputies responding to a 911 call Saturday night found 40-year-old Samuel Bert Gilbert III dead inside a vehicle. Smith said it isn't known whether Gilbert was inside or outside the vehicle when he was shot. He declined to release details of the shooting.

The sheriff said he doesn't know if the suspect and Gilbert knew each other and that investigators "are still piecing everything together."
