Prosecutors aim for third trial for ex-LR officer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors say they will seek a third trial for a former Little Rock police officer who is charged with manslaughter for the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy he caught breaking into cars.

Two juries have deadlocked this year on whether Josh Hastings acted appropriately when he fired into a car, killing Bobby Moore III.

Prosecutor Larry Jegley said Friday that his office will try once more for a conviction. Hastings' attorney, Bill James, said he doesn't plan to do much differently in a new trial.

The judge set May 5 for the start of a new trial.

Hastings claims Moore's car was heading toward him when he fired but prosecutors say Hastings shot unnecessarily and that evidence conflicts with Hastings' story.
