Drowning victim on Spring River identified

IMBODEN (AP) - A 78-year-old woman has drowned in the Spring River after an accident while launching a boat.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson says Alta Simington of Ravenden Springs died after the accident at about noon on Friday.

Jonesboro television station KAIT reports that Simington and a man were trying to launch a boat at the Imboden ramp so they could go fishing.

The truck that towed the boat began to roll backward toward the water with Simington inside. The male driver was outside the truck.

The sheriff says Simington was able to get out of the vehicle but somehow got hung up and drowned in the river.
