A Washington County woman was arrested Tuesday after her 14-month-old daughter tested positive for methamphetamine.

Anita Ruth Tate, 39 of Copan, was arrested on a complaint of child endangerment.

Tate brought the child to the emergency room because the child was crying and was red around the nose and mouth. Emergency room doctors called the Washington County Sheriff’s Office because a blood test revealed her daughter had been exposed to methamphetamine, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Tate told a deputy that she was smoking meth earlier that day and broke her glass pipe causing broken glass and meth to fall onto the floor and her bedroom and the child could have been exposed to the drug when she got on the bed later that day, the affidavit states.

While being booked into jail, deputies found a small bag of marijuana Tate was trying to hide so additional complaints of possession of marijuana and smuggling contraband into a prison were added to the arrest, according to the affidavit.
