Jr. high student in Fayetteville arrested for gun

Posted:

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Police in Fayetteville say they arrested a 15-year-old junior high student who was caught with a loaded gun.

No one was injured in the Wednesday incident at Woodland Junior High School.

A Fayetteville police officer working at the school was told it appeared that a student had a firearm on campus.

Fayetteville television station KHOG reports: (http://is.gd/EHMplT ) that the student ran away when the officer approached. The teen dumped his backpack behind World Gym on North College Avenue.

The student was caught and the backpack was recovered. Inside, police found a loaded pistol.

Police say the student had not threatened anyone at school. The boy is charged with possession of a handgun by a minor on school property and fleeing.

Police didn't release his name because of his age.
