Ex-Cabot principal denied unemployment benefits

Posted:

CABOT (AP) - Arkansas' Court of Appeals says a former principal within the Cabot School District isn't entitled to unemployment benefits because she was fired for misconduct.

Suzanne Proctor was fired in 2011 after missing work on Sept. 1, 2 and 6 of that year. The superintendent said Proctor missed work without telling him that she would be away from her school. Superintendent Tony Thurman said he had a right to know if principals would be away from their schools for more than half a day.

The Cabot School Board fired Proctor and she sued in Lonoke County Circuit Court. The state Court of Appeals upheld her firing last year and this month upheld a denial of unemployment benefits. The state Department of Workforce Services had said Proctor disregarded the superintendent's interests.
