Committee wants to see rates before funding ads

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A state legislative committee is delaying its review of a $4.5 million contract to promote the coming health insurance exchange in Arkansas.

The rates people will pay under the new insurance offering won't be revealed until next week. The Legislative Council agreed by voice vote on Friday to wait to review a contract to promote the marketplace created under the federal health care law.

State Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford told the Southwest Times Record that if legislators aren't satisfied by the rates that are to be released on Monday, the state can appeal.

The marketplace opens to the public on Oct. 1 and Bradford said it's important to inform the public about the choices that will be available and the requirements to qualify.
