Boozman chooses new chief of staff

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas U.S. Sen. John Boozman has named Helen Walker Tolar as his new chief of staff.

Tolar currently serves as staff director and chief counsel of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. She'll join Boozman's staff at the end of the month.

Before working for the Veterans Affairs committee, Tolar worked in the personal office of Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller of Florida. Tolar is a native of Pensacola, Fla., and received her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Boozman says he's worked with Tolar previously on veterans' legislation. He says Tolar "has one of the sharpest minds on Capitol Hill."

Tolar replaces Boozman's longtime chief of staff Matt Sagely, who is stepping down to take a job in the private sector.
