High School Hero Week 3: Colleton's Ramon Hall

Posted: Updated:

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- There were no championships won last week, but Colleton County might as well have ripped down the goalposts. They broke a 36-game losing streak with a win over Wando.

The following day, they had a celebration fit for heroes in their gymnasium, a pep rally from the students at Colleton County.

Their fearless leader and quarterback Ramon Hall soaked it all in.

"It was real big, in the past, they were saying we were never going to win. To get this win, with my guys who I've been with since 8th grade, it was wonderful," said Hall.

Hall was truly cool, calm and collected under pressure. With more than three years of a slump on his mind, television cameras in his face, a town's hopes on his arm, Hall ran for a touchdown and threw for three more.

"I take a lot of pride in leading," said Hall. "I'm a leader of the team, but the leaders on the O-Line and the secondary all pulled together."

It was Hall pulling them all together, that was the key for the Cougars.

"Ramon is an excellent leader. He works with all of our guys, he encourages them, calls them up, calls impromptu practices. He's a great leader and a great young man," says second- year Colleton County Head Coach Chris Collins.

But the biggest thing about this win may just be forgetting this win.

West Ashley looms on the horizon for Colleton and Hall has full intention of turning this win into a winning streak.

"It starts in practice. First, it starts in film, watching mistakes. We had mistakes, we could have put up more points. We have to go to practice, fix mistakes, go out and execute," said Hall.

He wants to play college football but says he hasn't gotten any looks.  This High School Hero is now opening eyes and winning games -- the looks will come.
