Woody Guthrie Center Prepares for Teacher Open House Event
Teachers are invited to an open house event Tuesday evening at the Woody Guthrie Center in downtown Tulsa.
The center plans to host the event Tuesday night in its Brady Arts District location downtown.
Becky Hawkes, the education and public programs
manager at center, says the open house allows teachers to learn about
Guthrie and the events that took place during his lifetime.
The 12,000-square foot center opened in late April to fanfare.
The museum features exhibits and memorabilia and
houses the Woody Guthrie Archives, a collection featuring nearly 3,000
song lyrics, hundreds of pieces of artwork, journal entries, postcards,
manuscripts and more than 500 photographs, among other rare items.
The archives will be open to the public by appointment for research use.
