Judge throws out most claims to Alamo properties

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A judge has thrown out most of the claims from Tony Alamo Christian Ministries members who say they have ownership interests in several Arkansas properties.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Bryant previously ruled that six properties in Fort Smith, Ark., could be sold to help satisfy a $30 million civil judgment that Alamo owes two men who were raised in the controversial group. Those two men were beaten, starved and denied education.

A number of ministry members wanted the judge to rethink the ruling about the properties.

But the Texarkana Gazette reports that Bryant issued an order Friday dismissing 74 Alamo loyalists' claims.

Six claimants remain.

Alamo is serving a 175-year prison term for bringing children across state lines for sex.
