(CNN) - New research suggests that the conventional wisdom that breakfast helps you keep the pounds off isn't true.
A report published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that skipping your first meal of the day has little or no effect on weight gain.
They said research conducted in 1992 by Vanderbilt University showed the most important factor in weight loss was how drastically people changed their eating habits. The findings also showed that people do equally well eating or not eating breakfast.
Researchers said these findings have been drowned out by observational studies that have found associations between breakfast habits and obesity, but no real link.
