Woman in SAU horse thefts changes plea to guilty

Posted: Updated:

IDABEL, Okla. (AP) - A woman accused of a key role in the theft of 5 horses from Southern Arkansas University has changed her plea to guilty and is to be sentenced by a judge next month.

Court records show that 20-year-old Jaci Rae Jackson is to be sentenced Sept. 9 in McCurtain County.

Jackson faced charges in Arkansas and Oklahoma over the 2011 horse thefts from the Magnolia, Ark., campus. 4 of the horses were found alive in Oklahoma and one had been killed there.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://is.gd/zBCGoA ) one effect of Jackson's plea is that she will be sentenced by a judge rather than a jury.

Jackson's mother, Wendi Cox, was sentenced in March to 60 years in prison after a jury convicted her of theft in connection with the case.
