More than a $1 million in heroin was seized over the weekend during a traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle allegedly being hauled to Tulsa.

The Texas Department of Public Safety made the announcement on Monday. Officials made the discovery last weekend on Interstate 40 when they stopped a driver coming from California.

DPS says 27-year-old Roberto Carrillo Beltran of  California was taken into custody during Saturday's stop near Conway, about 25 miles east of Amarillo. A Texas trooper found bundles with more than 6 pounds of heroin in the passenger side rocker panel of the vehicle.

Beltran was booked into the Carson County jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Officials stated that his bond has been set at $40,000.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
