FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Opponents and supporters of the federal health care overhaul are holding dueling events in northwest Arkansas as they kick off a multi-state tour revolving around the law's future.

Former U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina was slated to headline a town hall meeting in Fayetteville focused on the federal health care law. DeMint heads the Washington-based Heritage Foundation, which is holding a series of town halls around the country.

Supporters of the health law gathered at a park in Fayetteville beforehand to urge lawmakers to stop pushing for the law's repeal and to criticize an effort to tie federal budget negotiations to the overhaul.

Republicans have made major gains in Arkansas in recent elections by touting their opposition to the federal health law.
