Residency now a factor for Morrilton police

Posted: Updated:

MORRILTON (Petit Jean Country Headlight) - The chief of the Morrilton Police Department may now use residency as a factor when considering applications for new officers.

The city council approved a resolution Monday night giving the chief the authority to consider whether the applicant is a resident of Conway County, though it cannot be the only factor.

Chief Sonny Stover requested the resolution, saying he would prefer to hire officers who live in Conway County or are willing to move to the county. The final wording approved by the council was suggested by the Municipal League.

The resolution was approved by a unanimous vote of the council.
