LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Arkansas House Majority Leader Bruce Westerman (R-Hot Springs) Tuesday announced he would run for the Republican nomination for the Fourth Congressional District.

"We face the critical decision in 2014 of what it will be like to live in this country and in our state," Westerman said in a written statement. "We must decide whether people will have more power to shape their own lives, or whether we're going to lose that power to an unfair, top-down Obama administration where the IRS runs rampant looking in to our lives, where overly burdensome regulations stifle our ability to grow good-paying jobs for our workers, and where a government that refuses to live within its means threatens our future."

The announcement came just one day after Lt. Gov. Mark Darr announced he would also run for the seat currently held by Rep. Tom Cotton. Cotton announced last week he will challenge Sen. Mark Pryor for his seat in the U.S. Senate.

Janis Percefull, a community college teacher from Hot Springs, is the only announced Democratic candidate for the seat.

The 4th District spans southern and western Arkansas.
