Komen Race for the Cure to allow men racers this year

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - For the first time in the chapter's history, Arkansas' Susan G. Komen will allow men to run in this year's Race for the Cure.

The decision was made in order to raise more money so that the organization can fund more projects and services.

According to 2013 Race Chair Mike Gavigan, "Last year, we still had a $600,000 funding gap. That means that's the difference between how much money was requested from us and how much we could fund and we gotta change that."

A man will also serve as honorary chair of this year's race: Bill Clinton. The former president and governor lost his mother to breast cancer.

This year's fundraising goal is $2.1 million. Click here to register.
