PINE BLUFF (KATV) -

Pine Bluff's mayor is hoping to improve public safety by requiring private clubs to close earlier.

A proposed ordinance would require all private clubs in the city to shut their doors at 1:00 a.m.

Mayor Debe Hollingsworth said having an earlier closing time would cut down on police calls to private clubs., according to the Arkansas News Bureau.

Pine Bluff businessman Lloyd Franklin said he opposes the move.

Franklin, who is also a member of the Jefferson County quorum court, said people will just take their partying to private residences.

The Pine Bluff city council is scheduled to give final consideration to the ordinance August 5.
