Tulsa firefighters are battling a house fire that sent six people running for safety in West Tulsa Thursday afternoon.

Early reports indicate a generator may have caught the back of the home on fire and spread, burning a backyard pool in the process.

The home is in the 4800 block of S. 23rd W. Ave.

A homeowner, her daughter-in-law, four grandchildren and two dogs were in the home at the time and all of them made it out safely.

The homeowner lives alone and has not had electricity since Tuesday, and is on medication that needs to be refrigerated, so her daughter-in-law brought over a generator with gas to restore power.

The generator never started and while inside the home, the family heard an explosion and saw the back porch on fire.

TFD is continuing to investigate the cause.

KTUL has a crew on scene and will update with developments.
