Baxter County receives most from game, fish fines

MOUNTAIN HOME (AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says that it collected more than $632,000 in fines during the 2012-13 fiscal year. The money is set aside for education programs in the counties where the fines were collected.

During the 12 months ending June 30, the most money was sent back to Baxter County, with just over $24,000. Benton County was next, with $21,000 in fines collected.

Each county's Quorum Court allocates the money through schools and conservation districts and the fine money must be used on state Game and Fish Commission programs. Some of the more popular programs receiving the funds were the Youth Shooting Sports Program; Boating Education; Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs; Underwater Arkansas and Wings Over Arkansas.
