Need a job? Library system offering workshops in August

LITTLE ROCK - The Central Arkansas Library System has set up a series of workshops for the month of August designed to help unemployed Arkansans get their next job.

Every Saturday in August, a different workshop will be held at the main library at 100 Rock Street in downtown Little Rock covering everything from networking to building your resume. Registration is required and limited to 20 people per workshop.

  • Networking and Preparedness, August 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m., East Room
    with Kevis White of the Arkansas Workforce Center
    What to do in-between jobs, how to network effectively, how to ask for a reference, and more.
  • Cover Letters, August 10, 1:30-2:30, Computer Classroom
    with Dr. Karen Kuralt of the UALR Rhetoric and Writing Department
    How to write an effective and memorable cover letter. Bring any previously written personal cover letters on a flash drive, in an email account, or as paper copies.
  • Resume Writing, August 17, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Computer Classroom
    with Dr. Karen Kuralt of the UALR Rhetoric and Writing Department
    How to write an effective resume in the technology age. Bring any previously written personal resumes on a flash drive, in an email account, or as paper copies.
  • Dressing for an Interview or a Job, August 24, 1:30-2:30 p.m., East Room
    with Lindsay Irvin of InArkansas.com
    How to dress for an interview and put together an outfit designed to impress in a future job.
  • Interview Skills, August 31, 1:30-3 p.m., Darragh Center
    with Don Ramsey of the Arkansas Workforce Center, Mary Staten of Dillards, Allison Nicholas of Acxiom, and others
    How to refine interview skills. Opportunity to practice skills in a "speed interviewing" session with Little Rock business people.

    Saline County celebrated the return of it's “Lost Seal” by installing a historical civil war marker. The county hasn't had the seal since 1863 but it is now back in the counties possession.In 1996 Gary smith of Pine Bluff found discovered the seal with his metal detector in Grant County.More >>
