Fighting over money is the top predictor for divorce

Posted: Updated:

Couples fight over a lot of things and money is typically one of them.

A recent study found if you are always fighting about money with your significant other, your chances for divorce are significantly increased.

Kansas State University researchers studied more than 4,500 couples. They found it did not matter how much you made or how much you are worth, arguments about money are the top predictor for divorce.

"This is something we don't talk about before we get married", said Dr. Scott Bea of the Cleveland Clinic. "We worry about all sorts of other things. We think about sex, we think about kids, we think about communication. We rarely think about money being the root of difficulties in relationships."

Dr. Bea says before you get married, you are better off tying up any loose ends on your finances.
