Unemployment rate holds steady in June

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Arkansas' unemployment rate held steady at 7.3 percent in June.

Labor force data released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Arkansas' seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady from May.

DWS Communications Director Kimberly Friedman said, "The number of employed declined slightly in June, reducing the size of the civilian labor force. This movement was not enough to affect the unemployment rate, which remained stable at 7.3 percent."

The jobless rate rose in 28 states but the national unemployment rate also held steady at 7.6 percent.

The nation's so-called "real" unemployment rate rose from 13.8 percent in May to a seasonally adjusted 14.3 percent in June. This measurement is officially referred to as the "U-6" and includes those who aren't looking for work because they don't believe jobs are available or have settled for part-time work because they can't find full-time jobs.
