A McAlester man is accused of holding a woman captive and torturing her for five days.

Clyde Ray Harshaw, 42, is currently being held in the Pittsburg County Jail with no bond. He faces charges of kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, maiming, aggravated domestic assault and battery, and rape by instrumentation.

On July 10, a woman came to law enforcement, claiming she had been held hostage and tortured. Sheriff Joel Kerns says it is one of the more extreme cases he has ever seen.

The victim claims she was beat with a hammer, cut with a knife, had acid poured on her wounds, and had her hair pulled out with an electric drill over a period of five days before she was able to escape, the sheriff said.

Sheriff Kerns says deputies found items consistent her claims in the house on East Hereford Lane.

"Frankly, we're all in shock that this kind of activity would be going on right under our noses," said nearby resident, Alfred Buller.

A preliminary hearing conference is scheduled for August 1.
