DHS Cooling Assistance Funds Depleted

Posted: Updated:

The cooling help the state of Oklahoma was providing to low-income families has run out.

State officials have closed the application period for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program, which began last Tuesday, and offered a break to homeowners on their cooling bills this summer.

Within a week, DHS processed more than 74,000 requests and depleted the $16 million allotted for the program.

DHS will offer similar assistance this winter to help Oklahomans pay their heating bills.
