Texarkana man burned, windshield cracked when bird hits power line

Posted: Updated:

A bird on a wire caused a power outage and shocked a driver in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Jerry Cunningham said he was heading down a road in Texarkana when something hit his car, cracked the windshield and sent sparks flying.

"It sent a whole bunch of sparks into the street. I had all my windows and my sunroof open," said Cunningham. "It hurt like crazy."

Officials said a buzzard landed on a ground wire. Then fell on a 12,000 volt transmission line. About 1, 200 customers were without power for about an hour.
