Posted: Updated:

The Department of Labor's Job Corps program will accept applications Tuesday for its free education and training program.

It aims to help young people, ages 16 to 24, learn a career, earn a high school diploma, and find employment.  Students will receive hands on training in more than 100 career fields.  It will also help provide low income students a place to live, counseling, living allowances, and medical care.

The Oklahoma Job Corps Centers taking students are Guthrie Job Corps Center approximately two miles west of Guthrie, Talking Leaves Job Corps Center four miles south of Tahlequah; Treasure Lake Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Indiahoma and Tulsa Job Corps Center in Tulsa.

These centers also provide academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace.

To learn about the Job Corps program, or to contact a center, call (800) 733-JOBS [5627]. You may also visit Job Corps online at www.recruiting.jobcorps.gov or www.facebook.com/doljobcorps.
