Arkansas wildfire danger increasing

For months, the wet conditions kept the fire danger in the state low, but now things are starting to dry out.

Much of the state, shown in yellow on the map, is now under moderate fire danger.

That means it is important to take precautions before burning.

"Moderate fire danger means just be more cautious in what you do," said Joe Fox with the Arkansas Forestry Commission. "Be aware of dry grass and the fuel conditions. And if you are going to burn, that's okay, but it's better to burn early in the morning or late in the evening after the heat of the day or before the heat of the day when winds are calm rather than in the heat of the day with high winds."

Fox says for several weeks, the Forestry Commission had only been seeing about one fire every other week, but now foresters are seeing three to six per day.
