Special Election underway for continuation of Drew County road tax

MONTICELLO - A special election is underway in Drew County over whether or not to continue a 1 percent sales and use tax that mainly funds county roads.

In addition to construction, restoration, improvement, alteration and repair of county roads, a portion of the proceeds from the tax - 25 percent - finances general operations of county government.

If approved, the tax would continue through December 31, 2019.

Early voting is held from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Club Room of the Drew County Courthouse. Usual polling places will open for Election Day - Tuesday, July 9 - from 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
