Wildlife officers handing out ice cream "citations" to kids practicing boat safety

Posted: Updated:

As you would expect, Arkansas Game and Fish are preparing to patrol the lakes and rivers this 4th of July, but this year they'll be handing out a different kind of citation.

AGFC officers plan to be on the look out for kids practicing boating safety.

When officers spot kids doing the right thing, like wearing their life jacket, they'll be given a ticket that awards them a free ice cream cone at Sonic.

"We want to get people to realize - have a good time. We want you to go out on the lake," said Bob Cushing with the Arkansas Game and Fish. "But come back safe and responsible to your family."

Wildlife officers are planning to hand out 5,000 of these rewards.
