EMSA Issues Medical Heat Alert

EMSA medics have treated several individuals with heat-related illness symptoms since 12:01 this morning.

The first medical heat alert was issued at 3:20 p.m. after nine patients were treated for heat-related illnesses. Six of the nine were transported to local hospitals in fair condition. Since the first alert, EMSA has responded to three new patients for heat-related symptoms.

A total of seven patients have been transported to local hospitals in fair condition. The patients' ages ranged from 12 to 70 years of age.

Tips to avoid heat-related illness:

* Pre-hydrate hours before long exposure to the heat

*Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

*Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine

*Locate a cooling station or go to a public space if you don't have air conditioning during the day
