Teacher sentenced for sex with student after no-contest plea

Posted: Updated:
SHERIDAN -

A former Sheridan Middle School teacher pled no-contest to charges of sexual assault, stemming from having sex with one of her students while still working for the district.

Eighth-grade teacher Stephanie Bradshaw pled no-contest, which the court views as a guilty plea, to the Class A felony charges of first-degree sexual assault.

Under her plea the judge sentenced the 29-year-old Bradshaw to 15 years probation and fines of nearly $3,000, which must be paid within two weeks.

In her professional field, Bradshaw loses her teachers license and must register as a sex offender.

It was in April when Grant County prosecutors filed charges against Bradshaw after a lengthy investigation of phone records, and more than 1,300 text messages between her and the victim, who was 14 at the time.

Only Channel Seven has spoken to the victim's mother during this whole investigation, and Wednesday she had a little bit of closure, but it's been an emotional time for the entire family.

Bradshaw and her attorney declined to talk about the matter.

The victim said on multiple occasions, Bradshaw picked him up from his house to go to her home and have sex.

Justin Lewis will have a full report, along with a change the victim's other is urging school districts to make, tonight on Channel Seven Nightside at 10.
