LR police: Training changes follow woman's death

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Little Rock Police say a call-taker training program has changed following the death of a woman who called 911 while she was trapped in a vehicle in a pond.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said Wednesday trainers will have to complete daily observation forms for each trainee. She says written daily observations weren't previously required.

Jinglei Yi died on Jan. 14, hours after she called for help when her vehicle landed in a Little Rock pond.

Police say a county dispatcher transferred Yi's call to a Little Rock operator, who spoke with Yi briefly before hanging up and contacting an ambulance service.

An ambulance was dispatched to the pond, but police officers and firefighters weren't dispatched immediately.

The city operator resigned this month. The city hired her last year.
