The Sand Springs Police Department is searching for a man after they say tried to rape a jogger in River City Park Sunday afternoon.

Officers say a 20-year-old woman was on the trail just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday when she was was passed by a man on a black bicycle. When she passed under Highway 97, officers say the man waited until she got close and pulled a handgun, demanding she walk into a wooded area.

He reportedly pulled out a knife as well and demanded she perform sexual acts.

Before he could rape her, she managed to fight him for the knife. Her hand was cut in the process, and she told police he was stabbed in the leg during the fight.

Officers say the attacker ran away and the victim went to a nearby medical facility to get help. She was treated and released.

Detectives are looking for a 6-foot-tall white male in his late 40s or early 50s with blonde or gray hair. He was wearing a white ball cap, blue shirt and cargo shorts, as well as sunglasses. His bike was black with a case on the handle bars.
