Measure that includes Purple Heart to Little Rock victims passes House

Posted: Updated:

The annual National Defense Authorization Act passed the House Friday. In it, language that would award the Purple Heart to two soldiers shot at a Little Rock recruiting office.

Private Andy Long and Private Quinton Ezeagwula were shot by a self-proclaimed terrorist in 2009. Private long was killed.

Arkansas' delegation has since been working to get the award to the two men. But the incident is considered a drive-by shooting and therefore does not qualify.

The measure would also award Purple Hearts to victims in the Fort Hood shooting and declare both shootings as "combat zones" in regards to applicable laws and regulations.

This is the fourth year that this language has been in the bill and has passed out of the House... but it has failed to then pass the Senate.
