BAXTER COUNTY (KATV) - A Baxter County Jail inmate has been charged with a new felony offense after her child was born with drug withdrawal symptoms.

Elyssa Turner of Mountain Home gave birth to a boy on January 20 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. The infant suffered from withdrawals and had to be treated in the hospital for about 30 days.

Reports indicate that Turner tested positive for opiates and benzodiazepines. Deputies say she admitted to state child welfare investigators that she had consumed hydrocodone during her pregnancy without being prescribed the medication.

Turner was already in prison for probation/parole violations. She has now also been charged with a felony drug charge because of the damage done to her son. She was charged as a habitual offender.

Bail was set at $25,000.
