JESSIEVILLE, Arkansas -

A 5-year-old boy who survived last month’s EF-5 tornado in Moore was killed in a dog attack in Arkansas this weekend.

The boy and his family were visiting relatives in Jessieville, near Hot Springs after they lost their home in the May 20 tornado.

"His family actually had lost everything in a storm in Oklahoma, and was staying here," said Scott Hinojosa with the Garland County Sheriff's Department.

The family tried rushing the boy to the hospital, meeting an ambulance before it got there. Paramedics transported the child to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Garland County deputies and animal control spent Sunday searching for the dog.

Authorities said the boy was upset and crying and they dog may have mistook the crying for aggression.
