Ark. State exploring opening osteopathic school

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State University officials are exploring the possibility of bringing an osteopathic medical school to Jonesboro.

University officials say they're looking for a public-private partnership to establish the school. ASU-Jonesboro Chancellor Tim Hudson has been authorized by ASU System President Charles Welch to work on a feasibility study.

Hudson told The Jonesboro Sun that he expects to compile a report and recommendation for Welch and the ASU Board of Trustees before the end of the year.

The American Osteopathic Association's website says osteopathic training includes an emphasis on the entire body and the connectedness of the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems.

Arkansas' only medical school currently is the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
