Ex-LR officer set for manslaughter trial in June

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A former Little Rock police officer charged with manslaughter is to be tried next month for the shooting of a teenager he suspected of burglary.

Circuit Judge Wendell Griffin on Wednesday set a June 17 start for jury selection for Josh Hastings.

Hastings was fired in October after Chief Stuart Thomas concluded he violated department policies related to a June 25 burglary and the Aug. 12 shooting death of 15-year-old Bobby Moore Jr.

Hastings has pleaded not guilty.

Griffin also granted a request by Hastings to be declared indigent so the state can provide him legal counsel.

The department says evidence from the shooting scene contradicted Hastings' assertion that the teenager was driving toward him when he fired the fatal shot.
