Parkview graduates react to shooting incident

Posted: Updated:

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - It's a day many students look forward to---walking the stage after years of hard work. But some students say it's a bitter sweet day since one of their classmates won't be making that walk with them.

Jasmine Fisher was shot by Christian Jackson outside of Verizon Arena early Tuesday when she was leaving graduation rehearsal. Fisher is expected to make a full recovery but she was not able to participate in her graduation. Parkview's graduation went on as scheduled for 8:30 p.m. although there was noticeable heightened security. We asked some of the graduates what they thought about the incident and the most common response was the fact that it happened, out of all days, graduation day.

"It's crazy something like this can happen on one of your most important day," said Isaac Billanfante, a Parkview graduate. "It's kind of scary but I'm just glad that she's okay."

Another student said it was unfortunate that the event had to happen today.

"It's kind of sad that out of all the days it happened it happened on the happiest day of a high school student's career," said Javier Williams.

Jackson was listed as being in serious condition earlier Tuesday but he is expected to make a full recovery. He will be charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder
