UPDATE: Parkview student shot near Verizon Arena

Posted: Updated:

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Tuesday night, Parkview and McClellan High School students will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas, but one senior will be noticeably absent.

Jasmine Fisher, a Parkview student, was shot outside Verizon Arena Tuesday morning when she was leaving graduation rehearsal. She is recovering from her injuries at an area hospital.

Police say it appears to be a domestic dispute.

Krista Woods is the aunt of suspected shooter Christian Jackson, known as "CJ". She says, "I came because I heard there was an altercation between my nephew and his girlfriend, who he has been with a couple years. They were actually engaged."

Woods said her nephew is done with school and co-owns a birthday party business with Fisher, a high school senior.

She added, "They have been having problems lately....They were deeply in love. I never ever thought something like this would happen."

Around 11:00 Tuesday morning, Jackson was allegedly waiting outside Verizon Arena for Fisher who was leaving graduation rehearsal.

Sgt. Brian Dedrick said, "As she was walking out to her vehicle, the suspect, she either saw him or made some kind of contact with him and got scared. She turned around to start walking back."

Witnesses heard several shots and saw the teen crawling up the stairs, screaming for help. Sgt. Dedrick said she was shot at least once and detectives believe the suspect turned the gun on himself a few yards away.

As of 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, Jackson was in stable condition and Fisher was expected to be okay but was still being held at a local hospital. Woods is pulling for both of them to make a full recovery.

"I'm trying to just…I am still trying to just take it in and understand that it really happened and...I am just in disbelief."

Graduation at Verizon is still on schedule for Tuesday night. Even though this is considered an isolated incident, there will be heightened security and officers checking purses and bags. Counselors will also be on hand.

Jackson is expected to be charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder.
