Suspect shot during Blytheville hostage incident

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Police in Blytheville say one person was fatally shot after officers responded to a report that a person was being held hostage.

The call came at about 6 a.m. Sunday about an incident on First Street.

Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson told the Courier News (http://is.gd/BSAhc8 ) that an officer was involved in the shooting.

Names of the dead person and officer were not released and Thompson would not provide details about what happened. A police dispatcher on Sunday said the chief would be available on Monday.

The chief told the newspaper that Arkansas State Police are investigating the shooting. Blytheville police are also conducting an internal review.
